How to Fake Rain in Filmmaking
Today on 4MFS, Valentina and guest DP Laura Odermatt make it rain, literally, as they tackle the lighting for a dramatic, emotional scene. They focus on creating shadows of rain on the character's face, using hard moonlight to do so, and balancing out the frame with soft, tungsten interior light.
But of course, how are we going to get rain in the scene in the first place? Their producer Moses has some tricks up his sleeve, and found a rain machine for the budget. Rain doesn't show up on camera very well on its own, however, so how do you light a scene to make sure that the rain is visible on camera?
