Is the Lubitel 166 a Good Entry-Level Medium Format Camera?
I’ve proclaimed my love for the Holga. But not all “toy” cameras are the same; some can produce objectively better image quality than others. Is this camera, the Lubitel 166 one of those better plastic cameras? In this video, I discuss the camera’s features and offer some evidence of its capabilities. In the right hands, beautiful images can result.
As you’ll see in the video and in the images below, the “right” hands happen to be my wife’s. I like the images she snaps with the Lubitel. But I’m not as happy with the shots I’ve taken with it. We had a little discussion about why that might be, and I came to the conclusion that it might be something as simple as personality. For whatever reason, I’m just not that comfortable with TLRs. I mean, I think they’re beautiful-looking cameras, but when it comes to using them, I feel awkward.
