How-To Create a Cinematic Portrait With Hard Light
In this video Jeff Carpenter breakdowns his lighting setup for a recent shoot with Allee-Sutton where he created a beam of light on her face to create drama and interest. Check out the video to see how he did it!
THE FINAL PORTRAIT:
This shot was a 3 light setup as follows:
Key light - Paul C. Buff Digibee with barn doors to flag the light. To create the crisp shadow on Allee’s face I also had a @vflatworld v-flat that I purposely didn’t close all the way so there was a gap that created a shadow with a hard edge.
Rim/Hair Light - Another Digibee with a gridded strip box and a blue gel.
Background Light - Yet another Digibee with a snoot and a blue gel on a Savage Universal fashion gray seamless.
