Smoke On Location by Gavin Hoey
A great location portrait needs many things to work together such as a talented model, good lighting, the right styling… and so on. Added to that list for photographer Gavin Hoey is often atmospheric smoke. But when you look a little closer you’ll soon discover that not all fog fluids are equal.
In this video, Gavin passes on his top tips for working with a fog machine on location. After he covers the basics such as background and lighting, Gavin takes you on a journey by repeating the same shoot with three very different types of smoke effect fluid.
Starting with a light haze, Gavin moves on to heavy, textured smoke and finally settles on the incredibly versatile fast dissipating fog fluid. If you’re into your cinematic atmospheric effects, this video will cut through the haze!
