Use STROBES when natural light FAILS
This 10-minute portrait lighting tutorial shows you can use three lights (flashes or strobes) to completely control the lighting indoors without the use of a studio.
I setup a main light (also known as a key light) with a beauty dish, but a softbox would work exactly the same.
My second light is a kicker light/accent light, which some people would call a rim light or it could be used as a hair light. The third light bounces off the ceiling to light the entire room, allowing me to have a bright or dark background with just the flip of a switch! These tricks are also useful for event photography and wedding photography - said Tony Northrup -
