Photography: Learning in School vs Being Self Taught

5/10/2017 ISO 1200 Magazine 0 Comments

There's many people that speak about the pros and cons to learning photography in school or being self-taught. Alexis Cuarezma explains his personal experience and his point of view from studying photography, graphic design and art in college.
I went to CSUH but ended up dropping out. However, what I learned in my art classes was extremely helpful to me creatively. Most importantly in what I learned in my Drawing 1 class which had nothing to do with photography. If I can take away one thing that art/photography school taught me, is that I learned to use my eyes. And that's something I would have never been aware off or learned if I was a self-taught photographer.

Everyone's experience in college will be different though. As with anything, you get what you put in.
