The Sporting Life and Times: Art Shay, a legendary photojournalist at 91 years of age you must know
Art Shay (b. 1922) is a photographer and writer who has captured and helped define the American experience for the better part of seven decades. He shot pictures regularly for Sports Illustrated, Time, Life, Fortune, the Saturday Evening Post, Forbes, Business Week, Parade and The New York Times Magazine.

A Bronx native who now resides in Deerfield, Ill., Shay has photographed seven U.S. Presidents and other major influencers of the 20th century including such notable sports figures as Mohammad Ali, Nelson Algren and Marlon Brando.

We were lucky to spend a day with Art, and I shot and edited this video as an introduction to an exhibit of his work at Hanson Dodge Creative in late June.About the Exhibition
The Art Shay photography exhibition, “Art Shay: The Sporting Life & Times,” will run from June 20 through September 30 at the HDC studios, 220 E. Buffalo St., in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward. An invitation-only opening reception, featuring remarks from Art Shay, will be held from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The exhibition is free and open to the public beginning June 21.

It's about frikkin' time Art gets back into the national spotlight. If you want to learn about timing, composition, persistence, humor, seeing and understanding the world, pick up one of his books. One of the best shooters ever. Period. End of story.
