Alan Ross: Photographing Ansel Adams & Imogen Cunningham
20 February 2013, Ansel Adams' Birthday (1902-1984)
Alan Ross was Ansel Adams' photographic assistant in Carmel from 1974 to 1979. In early 1975, famed photographer and fellow founding member of Group f/64, Imogen Cunningham was assigned by People Magazine to photograph Ansel Adams in his home for a story they were running.
Alan, with camera in hand, was there to see it all unfold before his eyes and in this short film he talks about what went into the making of the photograph that resulted in his fine print titled "Ansel Adams and Imogen Cunningham." It's a delightful print with lots of character and a great backstory.
This interview was filmed at Sun to Moon Gallery in Dallas, Texas in January, 2013, before the opening of "Alan Ross: Forty Years in the West," an exhibition at the gallery featuring more than two dozen of Alan's exquisite black & white fine prints.
