That light is awfully hard on her face no matter what angle he has that strobe. It's not flattering at all. I would think anything- bouncing it off a white reflector, coffee filter taped to the strobe, shooting through a white sheet- would give a softer and much prettier look than this method. Yikes!
I've shot with a gridded hard light as a fill to complement a beauty dish as main and that works great at times, but i don't know anyone who would even attempt to shoot hard like this- except Terry Richardson. :(
